Three newly-designated national monuments of BiH

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, April 27 (FENA) - The Commission to Preserve the National Monuments in Bosnia and Herzegovina has made decisions on the designation of three buildings in Sarajevo and Trebinje as national monuments. These are the historic building of the Railway Station with the square in front of it (Novo Sarajevo municipality), the historic building in which the headquarters of the Sarajevo Canton and the City Center are situated today (Third Building of the National Government), as well as the architectural ensemble of the Church of the Translation of the Holy Relics of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker with Orthodox cemetery in Grmljani, in the Trebinje area.

Commission Chairman Radoje Vidović and members Amir Pašić and Goran Milojević decided at yesterday's 20th session of the body to place two assets on the list of endangered monuments in Bosnia and Herzegovina. These are the Church of Sv. Archangel Michael with the necropolis of stećak tombstones in Aranđelovo in Trebinje area, endangered due to the high amount of capillary moisture and consequent damage to the structure of the building and frescoes, as well as the bridge on the Viševski creek in Dolovi, municipality of Rudo, which is endangered due to severe structural damage, wild vegetation and prevented access.

The members of the Commission adopted amendments to the decision to designate the necropolis with stećak tombstones at Crnač locality in Donji Kotorac, the municipality of East Ilidža. The amendment refers to redefining the protection zone and the protection belt.

An amendment to the decision on the proclamation of the location and remains of the architectural ensemble of the Sinan Bey Mosque (Mosque of Sinan Bey Boljanić) in Čajniče was also approved. By changing and supplementing this decision, the object of the former Madrassa, destroyed during the Second World War, will be included in the protection zone.

At this session, the Commission decided to extend the protection regime for the necropolis with stećak tombs at the Nagora locality in Ostrožac settlement, Jablanica, and adopted a decision establishing that the Church in Vršani, the City of Tuzla, does not meet the criteria for designation as a national monument of BiH.

The twentieth session of the Commission was also attended by representatives of the international community in BiH.
