Constructing Pelješac Bridge without resolving the issues is disrespect of BiH

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, April 23 (FENA) - The Party of Democratic Action (SDA) considers it unacceptable for the Republic of Croatia to start building the Pelješac Bridge before all the disputes with Bosnia and Herzegovina have been resolved on this matter.

They party points out that the construction of the bridge is unacceptable if it goes to the detriment of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“Prior to the onset of construction, Croatia has to ratify the border agreement with BiH that was signed in 1999 by the then presidents of BiH and Croatia, Alija Izetbegović and Franjo Tudjman,” it is said in the statement.

In addition to this, Bosnia and Herzegovina must be granted access to the open sea in accordance with the Convention on the Law of the Sea.

“Only when BiH determines that the access to the open sea corresponds to the mentioned Convention, and when BiH gives its consent, the Republic of Croatia can connect its territory at a disputed location,” the party stressed.

The SDA also calls on the European Commission which is partially financing the construction of the bridge to actively engage in the resolution of this issue, otherwise Bosnia and Herzegovina will be compelled to seek protection of its rights via international courts, the SDA stated.
