SARAJEVO, April 9 (FENA) - Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina Dragan Mektić and Head of the Delegation of the European Union/EU Special Representative to BiH Lars-Gunnar Wigemark discussed today the possible solutions for establishing full cooperation between BiH and EUROPOL, due to justified fear that because of failure to implement the operational agreement, the cooperation could be suspended.
Minister Mektić pointed out that he would do everything to avoid this scenario, explaining that the main problem is the lack of harmonized attitude between the police agencies on the location of the joint contact point for cooperation with EUROPOL and the opposition of the RS Ministry of Interior for its headquarters to be at the Directorate for Coordination Police Bodies of BiH.
He announced that if no agreement is reached, he would use all the competences at his disposal to impose a decision on the contact point and send a liaison officer to the EUROPOL HQ in The Hague.
“We cannot have any more delays with establishment of the cooperation with EUROPOL because this is our link with the European Center for the Fight against Terrorism, and it is far too important to allow our agencies not to have access to the exchange of information and to use the analyses and information at disposal in their everyday work,” said Mektić.
