Minister: HNC lacks waiters, chefs, CNC operators, ...

FENA

MOSTAR, Mar 26 (FENA) - The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Herzegovina-Neretva County (HNC), Rasid Hadzovic, in cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce of the City of Mostar - Association of Entrepreneurs, organized a meeting of the Council for Vocational Education and Training (VET).

On that occasion,  Minister  Hadzovic said that today's meeting  dealt with   secondary vocational education with the aim  to make  parents  and children familiar with possibility for employment   through VET schools or secondary vocational  education.

"We are talking about the idea of schooling children for the economy, not for employment bureaus," Minister Hadzovic said.
Talking about deficit professions in the HNC region, Hadzović said that the research conducted together with the Chamber of Commerce of Mostar showed that a large number of educated staff from the field of construction,  mechanical  engineering  and catering  lack.

Currently 120 cooks and 180 waiters  are lacking   in the HNC area, as well as 300 CNC operators, a large number of galvanizers, welders, construction workers, carpenters, masonries and a large number of skilled workers. We feel that we have the ability to educate our children well because the beginning of vocational education does not mean that it is the end.  Every  child  can  later continue to study and go to college if  wishes so  - Minister Hadzovic said.

He  pointed out that it was  important to inform  parents and children, so at the Secondary Schools  Fair, scheduled for April 16 and 17, children and parents will have the opportunity to get information not only on high schools but also the professions they can  pursue after completing  formal education.

Minister Hadzovic added  that it was  necessary to focus on curriculum changes, as well as on drafting new legal frameworks.
Vjenceslav Leko, President of the Chamber of Commerce of Mostar City,  said  that the VET Council meeting represents a small step forward in  connecting  schooling and economy.

He pointed out  a great disproportion  between the  demand for  occupations and skills of  those who are looking for job.

- Many of our members of the Chamber of Commerce, as well as the business entities of the city of Mostar, are very interested in this project, hoping  for  a positive solution to the problem.  The problem is very complex,  but with the good cooperation of all interested parties,  it can be solved - Leko  concluded.
