SARAJEVO, July 21 (FENA) - We have noticed in the last three weeks that we have a constant increase in the number of people infected with coronavirus. This was expected, given the situation in Europe, so we expected it to come here as well, Mia Blažević, epidemiologist of the FBiH Institute for Public Health told FENA.

She said that the number of cases is many times higher than it is shown, because antigen tests are used to confirm the infection.

“Given that mostly antigen tests are used to identify the infection with coronavirus, numbers we have do not present the real situation. We know that the number of cases is much higher than what we show. But the best parameter for us is the number of cases in the hospital, which also grows every week,” pointed out Blažević.

She emphasized that the good thing is that the clinical pictures are not severe as it was with the previous variants.

“Currently, subvariants of the omicron virus dominate in our country, which unfortunately has one bad characteristic, which is that it successfully avoids both natural and vaccination-derived immunity,” she said.

Blažević noted that the vaccine still remains the best protection measure, given that it prevents severe forms of the disease.
