SARAJEVO, June 23 (FENA) - EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission Josep Borrell said in Brussels today ahead of the EU-Western Balkans Summit that it is necessary to maintain the "flame" of the European perspective, but today is not a good day.

"We are not at the level we should be with the Western Balkans. We should start negotiations with Albania and North Macedonia today, but I cannot hide my disappointment because things are not going in the right direction,” Borrell said.

He pointed out that once again it has been shown that unanimous decision-making in the EU is a big problem and that one country cannot be allowed to block decision-making for months, referring to Bulgaria.

“It is necessary to work on stronger and faster integration of the people of the Western Balkans into our work and invite them to participate in our discussions,” said Borrell.

The summit, which will be attended by leaders of EU member states and the Western Balkans, is being held ahead of a European Council session at which EU leaders will make decisions crucial to continuing Bosnia and Herzegovina's and the region's European path.
