ZENICA, May 24 (FENA) - “Prevention and Countering Violent Extremism - Practical Exercise” is the title of an interactive practical exercise that is being held by the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina today and tomorrow in Zenica for governmental and non-governmental representatives from cities and municipalities of the Zenica-Doboj Canton.
The organizers are especially pleased that representatives of all major religious organizations operating in the area are present among the 60 or so participants, which is a specific feature of this gathering in Zenica.
“The idea is to gather representatives of various institutions from all levels of government, civil society, media and religious communities, to discuss the phenomenon of violent extremism, which is not only related to going to foreign battlefields, which was very popular in some previous period. In all our activities, we talk about all types of violent extremism - religiously inspired, right-wing and ethno-nationalism, which is very common in our country,” said Selma Zeković, National Chief of Prevention and Countering Violent Extremism at the OSCE Mission to BiH.
She mentioned that this is the third such exercise, which, with the financial support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in BiH, was organized during this year, and they have three more such exercises left.
“The conclusions we make in these two days will be sent to all institutions participating in the work, but also to the Interdepartmental Working Group of the Federation of BiH for Prevention and Countering Terrorism and the Ministry of Security of BiH, which coordinates all these activities,” announced Zeković.
Representatives of police administrations, social work centers, mental health centers, religious communities and various non-governmental organizations are participating.
