SARAJEVO, December 26 (FENA) - Chairman of the Joint Committee on European Integration of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH Nikola Lovrinović said that he regretted that a good energy that appeared on the horizon was not used, assessing BiH’s European path in 2021.

In a conversation with FENA, he mentioned that at the time it was an agreement, primarily between the parties of the parliamentary majority, to try to solve three important challenges in 14 priorities from the Opinion of the European Commission. He reminded that these are the Law on Amendments to the Law on Public Procurement, the Law on Conflict of Interest and the amendments to the Law on the HJPC.

“We were on the right track to agree on that, to get a certain parliamentary majority and to fulfill these three important priorities, except for a few more that were met in 2020, such as the elections in Mostar, then the removal of the death penalty in the Criminal Code of the Republika Srpska, the formation of the Parliamentary Committee for Stabilization and Association, i.e. the adoption of the Rules of Procedure of the Committee. There have been some changes and it seemed to me that with these three laws we would have a credible effort on the path to EU membership,” stated Lovrinović.

Lovrinović points out that he is one of those who thinks that BiH should get the candidate status, adding that he is doing everything in his power, and as the chairman of the Joint Committee on European Integration, to contribute to that.

He notes that he would like that to happen because then, in his opinion, we would strongly open the reform processes.

Then, he believes, it will be impossible to avoid and not to support certain legal solutions in the parliamentary session, which are in line with European standards, if we open chapters.

Asked what can be expected in the next year, given the current political crisis in BiH, he said that at the moment, unfortunately, several top political topics are current and "some of these political topics have stopped, in a way, the work of the houses of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly. "

“This situation no longer makes sense. Simply, something has to happen, we have to solve these few issues in some way and we have to move on. And that means further towards the candidate status of BiH for EU membership. I really hope so. I will continue to work on that path, both with the declaration I proposed and as the chairman of the Joint Committee on European Integration of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” concluded Lovrinović.
