'State of alert' declared in Sarajevo Canton due to excessive air pollution

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, December 20 (FENA) - Based on measured concentrations of air pollutants and stable weather forecast, the Expert Body for Coordination and Supervision concluded that the conditions for declaring the 'state of alert' in the Sarajevo Canton have been met, according to the Intervention Measures Plan in case of excessive air pollution in the canton.

By measuring the concentration of pollutants in the air in the Sarajevo Canton at the automatic stations Otoka, Ilidža, Hadžići and Ilijaš, the state of alert threshold for PM¹º particulate matter in the air (50µg / m³) for the previous day has been exceeded.

At the City Hall station, the measured values for PM¹º did not exceed the limit value set for the designated episode of alertness.

According to the forecast of the FBiH Hydrometeorological Institute, moderate to mostly cloudy weather is expected tomorrow and in the next three days, with low-intensity wind, which is why there are conditions for temperature inversion in the morning and evening hours. Further accumulation of pollutants is expected, their concentrations is likely to increase.
