A conference on verification of Covid certificates to be held by end of 2021

SARAJEVO, December 20 (FENA) - The Ministry of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina will organize a ministerial conference in the field of healthcare by the end of this year to discuss the possibilities of harmonizing the technical solutions and legal framework for verification of digital Covid-19 certificates in BiH, FENA learns from this ministry after the Council of Ministers of BiH last week gave its consent to the Ministry of Civil Affairs to express request for Bosnia and Herzegovina to join the EU system of digital Covid certificates.

At the previous session of the Council of Ministers, held after a long blockade of the state bodies, it was determined that the Agency for Identification Documents, Records and Data Exchange of BiH will be the bearer of the technical solution.

The goal of all activities is to issue Covid certificates that are internationally recognized, in order to enable citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina to travel freely to countries in Europe and the world.

The Ministry of Civil Affairs of BiH reminded that, for a long time, they have been coordinating various levels of state organization in BiH with the aim of reaching an agreed normative and technical solution for the system of issuing Covid certificates in BiH.

"With that goal in mind, a special type of agreement is being prepared between the Ministry of Civil Affairs of BiH and all health authorities in BiH, which will define the legal framework for the system of issuing Covid certificates in BiH," they point out.

The harmonization process is underway and everything should finally be confirmed at the planned ministerial conference, followed by the technical implementation of the system in conjunction with the EU Green Pass system, FENA learns.

After the European Union verifies the system, it will be possible to issue internationally recognized Covid certificates in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Bosnia and Herzegovina does not yet have a single digital certificate on the Covid status of BiH citizens, although the BiH Ministry of Civil Affairs started consultations with all levels of government on this issue in May this year. Also, QR codes on the vaccination certificate that have been issued to BiH citizens are not valid in European Union countries.
