SARAJEVO, December 10 (FENA) - Head of the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina Ambassador Kathleen Kavalec visited the Federal News Agency (FENA) and talked with General Manager Elmir Huremović about the cooperation between OSCE and FENA and the importance of truthful and timely public reporting.

Kavalec said that she was pleased to be able to visit a news agency that is focused on providing accurate, reliable and unbiased information to the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“FENA plays a huge role in placing information that citizens can trust, which proved to be particularly important during coronavirus pandemic, when citizens need information quickly and need information that they know they can depend on to make decisions” added Kavalec.

She also said she was pleased that the OSCE Mission is able to work and cooperate with FENA in supporting media freedom in BiH and in looking to some possible joint projects, one of which is to support minority rights and ensure that everyone has access to the information they need.

Ambassador Kavalec mentioned that news agencies have a special role because they can offer information in many different ways, and that is exactly the area in which the two organizations can cooperate.

Huremović emphasized that FENA's mission is to report on the importance of Bosnia and Herzegovina's progress on its path to the European Union and NATO, and to maintain a high level of quality and independence in all topics reported to the public.

“In this way, we are fighting against disinformation, especially propaganda that is never accidental but is caused by various motives, and which we are trying to annul with our work,” said Huremović.

He emphasized that FENA's intention is to introduce a new service for people with disabilities, starting with people with hearing impairments, which does not currently exist in BiH, although a law guaranteeing this type of right for this part of the population has been in force since 2009.

The need to promote the rights of minorities and vulnerable groups was highlighted at the meeting, and FENA intends to implement projects that would raise awareness of the importance of such reporting among its users and public opinion in general.
