SARAJEVO, December 2 (FENA) - Assistant Minister of Health of the FBiH, Marina Bera stated that the omicron strain of coronavirus has not been detected yet in the Federation of BiH so far, but that it can be expected to show up in our country soon.

At the press conference after the session of the FBiH Government, Bera pointed out that 150 samples had been sequenced in the last 15 days, that all these samples were delta strains, and that this new strain has not yet been detected.

Presenting the latest information on the epidemiological situation in the FBiH, Bera said that in the last 15 days we had the incidence of 143 cases per hundred thousand inhabitants, with a high level of transmission in five cantons, namely Sarajevo, Tuzla, Herzegovina-Neretva, Posavina and West-Herzegovina.

According to her, what has been constant lately is the number of hospitalized and it is always around 500 people. Currently, 543 people are in hospital treatment, of whom 8.7 percent or 47 are on invasive mechanical ventilation.

Also, she added, she is concerned about the high number of deaths, as 123 deaths have been reported in the past week.

"Despite the fact that there are sufficient quantities and different brands of vaccines, and vaccine selection is possible, in the last 15 days the vaccination coverage increased by only 1.3 percent, with 28.8 percent of our population having received the first dose, and 25.12 percent of the population has received two doses," added Bera.

In addition to the low percentage of vaccinated, Bera also pointed out the shortcomings in the continuous adherence to the measures and warned that this could be a great threat in the upcoming holiday period.
