Komšić: No solution has been presented yet

SARAJEVO, November 30 (FENA) - Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina and leader of the Democratic Front (DF) Željko Komšić met today with the Special Envoy for Electoral Reform of the United States Matthew Palmer and Director of the European External Action Service Angelina Eichhorst and discussed changes to the Election Law and the BiH Constitution.

After a meeting with international officials, he reiterated that no paper or solution had been presented yet, but noted that there is an intention to delete the ethic prefix when it comes to the election of members of the BiH Presidency.

He notes that the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH is also the subject of discussion, i.e. how to enable those who do not declare themselves as representatives of the constituent peoples - Bosniaks, Serbs or Croats - to be elected to the House of Peoples.

He says that there was no discussion about the behavior of the member of the Presidency and SNSD leader Milorad Dodik, although Komšić expressed his views on that because he claims that this is the source of the political crisis in BiH since it is a matter of endangering the sovereignty of BiH, which is helped by BiH's neighbors through the demands of Dodik, but also by HDZ leader Dragan Čović.

He referred to the possibility of imposing sanctions on Dodik, saying that he is of the opinion that Dodik would be more affected by the sanctions of the European Union or at least individual countries, especially if they were in the circle of people around him who are his political and material support in terms of holding the levers of power in the BiH entity Republika Srpska.

The problem is, says Komšić, no one insists on resolving all judgments of the European Court of Human Rights at the moment, although he is aware of why the verdict in the case "Sejdić and Finci v. BiH" is in the foreground because it can be implemented if the ethnic pefix for the election of members of the Presidency and the House of Peoples of BiH is avoided.

He also referred to yesterday's session of the House of Peoples of the BiH Parliament and the fact that the HDZ voted to annul the amendments to the BiH Criminal Code which prohibit denial of genocide and glorification of war criminals, saying that HDZ's policy is known and identical to the position with SNSD, and yesterday's vote is just public proof of that.

“This is proof of how low politics in BiH can fall, to agree on such things. That law is not directed against anyone, any institution or administrative unit, it is simply a norm of civilization,” Komšić underlined.
