The first association for online commerce 'eComm' established in BiH

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, November 12 (FENA) - The Association for Online Commerce "eComm", which operates throughout BiH, was founded at the end of last month in Sarajevo, and its founders are "PIK" Sarajevo, "LILIUM" Sarajevo, the Association of Arbitrators and the BIT Alliance. The founders state that this is an important step forward in the development of e-commerce in BiH.

The establishment of the Association was supported by the MarketMakers Project, funded by the Government of Switzerland, which in 2019 launched an initiative for the development of e-commerce in BiH, in which ten other companies participated, and which supported the creation of 35 e-shops and development business plan of the Association "eComm" in BiH.

The Covid-19 pandemic highlighted the importance of digitizing existing and new business models in both the global and local markets. Already in 2020, there was a noticeable growth of online commerce in BiH. One example is OLX, which in 2020 recorded a growth of professional retailers of 25 percent compared to last year.

According to all available indicators, this trend of e-commerce growth in BiH continued in 2021, which causes an increased demand for other services that participate in the e-commerce process such as digital marketing, delivery and the like. These facts point to the need for further development and management of the principles and channels of online commerce. The potential for further development and regulation of this type of trade is great in the context of regional or global sales in which domestic companies can and should also seek their position.

Bosnia and Herzegovina is the only country in the region that has not yet had an active Association for the Development of E-Commerce, which is continuously working to create a favorable and positive environment for the development of e-markets and brings the country closer to global trends.

The Association was established to promote secure internet trade in BiH, to contribute to the improvement of legislation in this area, and actively works on educating all factors in the e-commerce process, from traders to consumers. The association will be a major proponent of e-commerce development and plans to expand partnerships with the private and public sectors.
