BAKU, November 5 (FENA) - Former Serbian President Boris Tadić assessed that the BiH Presidency member Milorad Dodik is sharpening his rhetoric in an extremely dangerous way.
Speaking to reporters in the Azerbaijani capital, where he is taking part in the 8th Baku Global Forum, he said he was not sure Dodik's behavior was out of control but thought that he has a strategy.
"The perception of Dodik's policy in BiH is unambiguous. Dodik speaks about things for which he is formally and legally entitled. On the other hand, Dodik sharpens his rhetoric in an extremely dangerous way. In my tenure, I don’t remember him doing anything like that. It may happen that Dodik sharpens his rhetoric, and Vučić calms him down. Whether it is true or just a spectacle for the public, you must judge for yourself. But I think it is an unacceptable policy, a very dangerous policy and I think there is no reason for such aggravation. I would lead the politics quite differently, especially in the Balkans, where it has already brought such tragic consequences. I thought we at least learned one lesson," said Tadić.
He also stated that Dodik links his political survival to the survival of Republika Srpska, and "this is a disaster for the RS".
"From the point of view of political approach and methodology, this is something completely unacceptable and stifles any communication within the RS, but I see that it is a constant in the entire Western Balkans, but also in Hungary, Poland, Turkey, that it is a disease that has taken over the world," said Tadić.
Answering the question of how sincere the policy of official Serbia towards BiH is, he said that he himself faced such a question, which means that there is a basic distrust.
"And on the other hand, if we constantly approach each other with distrust, we will never be able to overcome the problem. If you ask me how sincere Vučić's policy towards BiH is, I do not believe that it is sincere towards Serbia as well. That is my attitude towards today's politics in Serbia. It is the complete opposite of everything I have done. I was completely for reconciliation and problem-solving. But, when I was performing this duty, I was facing huge mistrust in both BiH and Croatia, huge prejudices that needed to be broken and that is the biggest problem that any politics faces," said Tadić.
He says that the attempt to change the political code in the Balkans, which began in 2004, with Ivo Josipović and Sulejman Tihić, was quickly shut down and "we have returned to our old ways".
"It is a tragedy. The goal of such a policy is to maintain constant tensions and count on the part of the electorate that will want to support such a policy, and that is, unfortunately, the relative majority of voters in all our countries," concluded Tadić.
