Izetbegović: Destructive policies can lead us into crises, but cannot defeat us

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, October 7 (FENA) - A ceremony was held in the Multimedia Hall of the Municipality of Novi Grad Sarajevo on the occasion of the 31st anniversary of the founding of the Municipal Board of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) Novi Grad.

The ceremony was also attended by SDA President Bakir Izetbegović, who, addressing the audience, reminded of the challenges and difficulties faced by the SDA and all citizens of this Sarajevo municipality in the first years of the party's formation.

The president of the SDA said that, whenever it is difficult, it is necessary to remember what the members of the SDA, the citizens of Novi Grad, the whole of Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina, went through.

"Truths need to be repeated. What we went through in ten years, others did not in 100 years, "said Izetbegović.

Speaking about the results of the FBiH Government, Izetbegović said that the Government managed to make 2021 the best year after the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement.

"The numbers speak for themselves. That is not the opinion of the SDA president. We will, I think, already in November have the same number of employees as we did before the pandemic started. We will have a more successful economy, higher exports, greater accumulation in budgets than in 2019. That is a success in these circumstances," Izetbegović said.

According to the SDA president, destructive policies can create crises, but they cannot lead to the secession of parts of BiH because they will be opposed by the international community and BiH institutions.

He believes that the SNSD and other parties based in the RS entity are expected to respect principles such as the Constitution, the rule of law and the European Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.

Speaking about the changes to the Constitution and election legislation, Izetbegović said that the Croat people must be satisfied, but that the powers and competencies of the houses of the people must be reduced exclusively to the protection of vital national interests.

Izetbegović emphasized the need to strengthen the rule of law, which will apply to everyone equally, regardless of ethnic, religious, political or any other affiliation. He said that the SDA is working on defining key priorities at the FBIH level, which will primarily include improving the living standards of citizens, and conveyed the details of the vision for the development of Novi Grad and Sarajevo Canton.
