SARAJEVO, September 29 (FENA) - The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia, a country with many ethnic groups, more precisely 714 members of various nations and tribes, marked its Independence Day at an event held in Sarajevo on Wednesday evening.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Roem Kono, told FENA that they are proudly celebrating 76 years of independence.
Although the national holiday is celebrated on August 17, due to the pandemic, the Indonesian Embassy in BiH has decided to celebrate Independence Day on September 29.
"This holiday is celebrated by the citizens of Indonesia throughout the country, while the central event takes place in Jakarta when President Joko Widodo invites all foreign ambassadors to the Palace," said the Ambassador.
In addition to traditional dishes and dances, the ceremony, which was attended by a large number of domestic and foreign dignitaries and guests, was also embellished by employees of the Embassy who wore traditional attires from all parts of Indonesia, islands of Java, Bali, Sumatra, Sulawesi, and others.
Recognizing diversity as a blessing of their country, the founders of Indonesia declared "Bhinneka tunggal Ika" or "Unity in Diversity" a national motto inscribed on the state coat of arms "Garuda Pancasila", containing five principles that guide Indonesia's state policy and national development.
