SARAJEVO, November 10 (FENA) - A member of the Crisis Staff of the FBiH Ministry of Health and Head of the Epidemiology Service of the FBiH Public Health Institute, Sanjin Musa said today at an extraordinary press conference that the goal of the measures is to reduce infection transmission, pressure on hospitals and to save lives.

With the beginning of October, as he added, we entered a period of worsening epidemiological situation when it comes to Covid-19 pandemic.

According to him, the increase in transmission continued in the period from November 2 to 8. A total of 41,067 cases have been confirmed so far, the total number of deaths is 1,012, there are currently 17,329 active cases, and the average number of identified cases per day is 970.

"When we observe the seven-day incidence, it amounts to 325 cases per one hundred thousand inhabitants at the FBiH level, and the incidence is extremely high in the Sarajevo Canton, the Podrinje Canton and the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, over five hundred cases.

The increase in the incidence is recorded in all the cantons, but it is certainly related to a greater number of testing," Musa explained.

Since the beginning of October, it has been noticed that the infection rate has increased in all age groups, and Musa emphasized that we must pay the most attention to the protection of the most vulnerable categories of the population.

"Unfortunately, we have exceeded the number of one thousand when it comes to deaths caused by the Covid infection, and the analysis shows that 80 percent of the people who died were over 60 years of age, and 66 percent of them were males. If we look at the weekly indicators of the progress of the epidemic, all indicators show a further increase. In week 45, compared to 44, the number of new confirmed cases increased by nine percent, the total number of hospitalizations increased by 16 percent, the number of patients on ventilators increased by 48 percent and, unfortunately, the number of deaths increased by 33 percent," underlined Musa.
