Salkić urges intl. community to end systemic discrimination against Bosniaks

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, October 11 (FENA) - The fact that the authorities of the Bosnian entity of Republika Srpska, without any sanction and serious consequences, carry out systemic discrimination in the educational process of this entity over Bosniak children shows the attitude of the international community towards respect for human rights and freedoms in this entity, stated the office of Vice President of the RS, Ramiz Salkić.

The European Convention on Human Rights and Freedoms stipulates that everyone has the inalienable right to call their language as they wish and to use it freely without any discrimination. The same is provided by the constitutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also by the laws that treat the education sector.

The entity constitution clearly defines the right of constituent peoples to call their language as they wish. This follows from the constitutional definition of the language of the Serb people, the language of the Bosniak people and the language of the Croat people.

The RS authorities, in violation of the Constitution and executing discrimination, alow Serbs and Croats to call their language as they feel and want while imposing the name of the language only on the Bosniaks people and not recognizing the constitutional right to call their language as they wish.

Discrimination is carried out due to the fact that Bosniaks call their language Bosnian, which is not acceptable for the authorities in this entity due to political, Greater Serbia ambitions and pretensions towards the territory of BiH.

In fact, the authorities in this entity show through systemic discrimination that they have not given up on the idea of dividing BiH and expelling everything associated with belonging to Bosnia and Herzegovina, including the Bosnian language from the territory administratively designated as the RS entity.

He emphasizes that "Bosniak children and parents in this entity, some publicly and some in silent suffering, express their dissatisfaction with this fact, have been pointing to discrimination for a number of years."

Some have abandoned the education system in this entity, some are still part of it and are trying to continuously point out discrimination by fighting for their rights.

Unfortunately, in their struggle, they are more and more alone, abandoned and forgotten by almost everyone in this country, but also by those who tell us every day about the values of Europe, which we all aspire to.

Those who implement systemic discrimination and apartheid in the educational process, as well as those who fight for basic human rights, strive towards that same Europe.

Representatives of this exact Europe and the entire international community in BiH are blindly watching the struggle of disenfranchised children and their parents for the basic human right to language and education in their mother tongue in their own homeland.

They express regret, support, condemnation, but without concrete action, reaction, or sanctions against those who violate basic human rights in this entity, the statement said.

The lack of reaction from the international community and the state's inability to respond, protect and ensure respect for human rights and freedoms in this part of our country called the RS, encourages the entity authorities to complete the work they had begun in 1992, this time by peacetime methods, stresses the RS Vice President Salkić.

He called on the representatives of the international community, primarily the OHR, the OSCE, the European Commission, friendly embassies, state bodies to prevent this, to finally persuade, coerce or whatever they have to do for the authorities in this entity to stop systemic discrimination against Bosniaks and to de-Orthodoxize the education process and make it equally accessible to all students.

All those who are in a position to act today, if they remain silent and do not do what they should, will be held co-responsible for the consequences that will occur in the coming period in this part of BiH, reads a statement from the Office of the RS Vice President Ramiz Salkić.
