Dodik: Commitment to EU candidate status for BiH

SARAJEVO, May 4 (FENA) - BiH Presidency member Milorad Dodik said that an "informal" meeting of the working group tasked for BiH's path to the European Union was held today at the BiH Presidency, and was not attended by representatives of the Croat Democratic Union (HDZ).

Dodik claims that HDZ stated in the letter that the BiH Presidency is not in charge of European integrations and that the election law is a particular problem, as well as the election of Željko Komšić as a Croat member of the BiH Presidency, which is also stated in the letter signed by President Dragan Čović addressed to the BiH Presidency Chairman Šefik Džaferović.

Dodik added that the framework and principle for European integration had to be considered today, with regard to the fact that a summit is being held in Zagreb on May 6, when the heads of state or government of the EU Member States and the Western Balkans will discuss the state of the European integration process at a videoconference.

At today's meeting, the officials expressed commitment of the BiH candidate status for EU membership as soon as possible, aware that the methodology of accession has been changed, i.e. that there are no more 36 chapters but six areas where the dynamics have changed, which implies that when everything is renegotiated, it can be returned to the beginning.

“BiH is entering a completely less favorable process than is the case for some other countries that have already completed the accession process or Serbia and Montenegro, which are in the process of the old EU accession mechanism,” Dodik added.

He confirmed that the European Union is one of BiH's priorities and added that the participants of the meeting sought to resolve the issue in order to reach a candidate status as soon as possible, such as electoral legislation, which is further complicated by the illegitimate election of new members of the Central Election Commission.

He added that they also discussed public procurement, which has been a problem in BiH for years, "as well as the law imposed by the High Representative in BiH," Dodik said.
