Komšić meets with Governor General of Canada Julie Payette in Ottawa

SARAJEVO, March 11 (FENA) - Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željko Komšić met with Canada's Governor, General Julie Payette in Ottawa, to discuss the two countries' excellent political and friendly relations, as Canada is among the first countries that had recognized BiH's independence.

Komšić thanked Payette on behalf of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina for all the assistance Canada has provided, and continues to provide the people of BiH living in that country today.

Governor General Payette noted that the Government of Canada is working on the procedure for the appointment of the Honorary Consul of Canada in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

She was reiterated that Canada would continue to support BiH and its path to NATO and the European Union, as well as continue working on academic exchange and cooperation.

Payette, a former astronaut, presented Chairman Komšič with a photograph of Bosnia and Herzegovina taken from a space station by a Canadian astronaut.

The Governor General of Canada is appointed by Queen Elizabeth II and proposed by the Prime Minister of Canada, the BiH Presidency stated in a press release.
