TUZLA, February 6 (FENA) - I am pleased that the top three BiH public universities are ranked on Webometrics, one of the most significant platforms that track the work of universities around the world, but with an analysis showing how far we are to return to the status we were at a few decades ago, said Professor Vedad Pašić, Dean of Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at the University of Tuzla.
On the largest academic ranking platform for higher education institutions from all over the world, the best-ranked university in BiH is the University of Sarajevo, followed by the University of Banja Luka and the University of Tuzla.
In an interview with FENA, Professor Pašić explains that Webometrics monitors the achievements of higher education institutions in BiH and that it is the only world scale on which BiH universities are ranked. Webomatrics, with its headquarters in Spain, implies, as he points out, one of the primary ways in which higher education institutions can be found online.
He estimates that, since BiH is ranked on the Webometrics rankings, its university professors have taken scientific research online more seriously and improved their scientific work in order to be cited as widely as possible in scientific journals.
He cites examples of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Medicine, Electrical Engineering and Technology, in addition to other faculties of the University of Tuzla, which have made a major step forward in number of citations, by more than 1,100. Also, professors at the University of Tuzla have published several scientific papers with colleagues from prestigious universities around the world.
There are 47 higher education institutions in BiH on the Webometrics list, and it is list to improve the presence of academic and research institutions on the Internet and promote the publication of open access scientific papers.
