Gupta: NATO values and respects partnerships

FENA Fedzad Forto

SARAJEVO, November 24 (FENA) - President of the BiH Atlantic Council and professor at the University of Mostar, Dijana Gupta said that this week's decisions in the BiH Presidency, confirming the appointment of Zoran Tegeltija as the nominee for the BiH Council of Ministers' chairman and the planned sending of the BiH Reform Program to headquarters NATO upon his appointment mean that BiH has made the biggest leap and political turnaround since the Dayton Peace Agreement.

When BiH received from NATO the invitation for the development of the First Annual National Program (ANP), Gupta reminded, it was obliged to do the task by the end of this year.

"These are issues in the field of security, defense, resources, and others. It is also the question of reform, but to be clearer, it is the ANP. Due to the specific situation in BiH, many officials in their statements said it was something else. That is not true. This is the ANP. What answers will be offered by those who submit the plan, we cannot know at the moment," said Gupta in an interview with FENA.

She specified that in any case, these must be concrete and accurate things that are fact-based.

"The acceptance and adoption of the ANP by the BiH Presidency was a historic step towards BiH's foreign policy goals.

BiH has made the strongest leap and political turnaround since the Dayton Accords. This is now the first phase followed by the next steps, which will be coordinated between NATO and BiH.

Certainly, there will be more questions and conditions that BiH will need to complete. This includes dialogue.

NATO is the strongest military-political alliance in the world and very concrete when it comes to cooperation. They very much value and respect partnerships. We are a partner country and I think by signing the ANP, we have gained international credibility with NATO, as well as with our allies who support BiH's path to NATO and the EU.

Yes, we have unblocked the state in some way, and we have drawn it out from stagnation. The BiH Presidency has played a key role in this," says Gupta.

She also points out that the BiH Presidency member Milorad Dodik made the right move and this time he showed that he is capable of building a conciliatory, compromise policy of a pragmatic concept within BiH.

"This should be appreciated. Peace and collective security, as well as the economy, are paramount to BiH. NATO is our most important foreign policy goal. Now everyone must become actively involved in implementing other foreign policy goals. The ANP has brought optimism,” Gupta concluded.
