SARAJEVO, November 18 (FENA) - BOLD - BiH Young Leaders Program, launched by the United States Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, has officially begun tonight.

The project provides opportunities for young leaders, aged 18-35, who want to make change in BiH in the areas of civic engagement and economic development, and will implement the projects in their communities and support one another in their efforts to bring about positive change.

US Ambassador to BiH Eric Nelson expressed satisfaction with the new BOLD program because, as he explained, he sees tremendous potential in young people in BiH - students - that they can do a lot for BiH.

Therefore, he said, year after year, the U.S. government is investing in scholarships and exchange programs.

“Young people are ready to overcome obstacles and bring change to their communities, I see this among young entrepreneurs, educators traveling through BiH every day. And for them to make an even bigger impact on improving the situation in the country, I am very glad that BOLD will enable them with more training and more resources,” said Nelson and expressed hope that BiH youth will be ready to join the project.

Also, US Embassy Culture and Education Attaché Holly Zardus said the BOLD program will empower a new generation of BiH leaders to improve the situation in BiH.

“It is important for us to support the ideas we hear from young people as we travel across BiH, and to bring all those ideas together and put the best of them into action,” Zardus said.

She said that their support will consist in providing young people with various opportunities, trainings and some of them in the USA.

“We are interested in two types of projects that will exist under the BOLD program, namely economic development and civic engagement,” Zardus emphasized.

The BOLD program is of a competitive nature that young people can apply for and compete for projects that will be accepted to bring about positive change in BiH.

The US Embassy will support BOLD leaders through exchange programs, workshops and educational programs in BiH, initial project funding, and engagement and networking with people of similar ideas.
