SARAJEVO, October 14 (FENA) - As part of the Sustainable Development Week 2022 in BiH, the event "Conversations of the Future: Circular Future in BiH and the World" was organized today, and the fourth edition of the series focused on the transition of the economy towards circularity, through the vision set in the Circular Economy Roadmap for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Steliana Nedera, stated that the transition to a circular economy can succeed in countries that are in different stages of development and that have different economic profiles.

"BiH has the perspective of being closer to the EU, and the EU is a global leader in the circular economy. The circular economy map for BiH defines which economic sectors should be prioritized in the process of transition to a green economy and is a good basis for identifying concrete ways and resources needed for implementation. BiH can become completely circular if society as a whole accepts this transition, including users and producers," explained Nedera.

The event aims to stimulate thinking about a possible future that springs from today's visions of a fairer and more sustainable, healthier and greener economy, showing that circular business models are efficient and applicable in developing countries as well.

Representatives of the public and private sectors from the region and the world presented experiences, practices and results of the transition to the circular economy, which stimulated the discussion of the participants on the role of society, economy and administration in that transition.

In practice, as Stefano Ellero, Head of Cooperation in the EU Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina, said that BiH is in the early stages of transitioning to a circular economy, and that is why they want to encourage it, especially its institutions, to plan and act according to this principle, and the adoption of the circular economy roadmap is a very good first step.

"The principles of green and digital transition are in the financing plan of our partner countries around the world, especially in the Western Balkans. The green agenda is often perceived in Bosnia and Herzegovina as difficult to achieve, but the EU and other international actors are ready to provide financial resources and technical support if the country adopts strategic documents," added Ellero.

"Conversations of the future" are thematic discussions periodically organized by the UNDP Accelerator Lab in Bosnia and Herzegovina, whose goal is to present global innovative ideas and bold visions that can help solve challenges, change the way of thinking and contribute to a better tomorrow for our planet, announced UNDP.
