SARAJEVO, March 20 (FENA) - Growing air pollution, floods, landslides and more frequent weather disasters are a direct consequence of climate change and insufficient care for the environment. All countries of the world have recognized the importance of this problem and the need to take urgent action to preserve the planet. A new way for everyone to contribute to the prevention of climate change, even from the comfort of their own home, has been provided by the platform www.TvojCO2.ba developed by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in BiH.

During the first planting campaign in the fall of 2021, more than 17,000 tree seedlings were purchased by 38 companies, numerous citizens, and enabled their planting at 34 locations in city parks, barren lands and burned areas throughout BiH. These trees will eliminate more than 20,000 tons of CO2 from the atmosphere during their lifetime.

The platform was created as an incentive for the participation of individuals and companies in the fight against climate change and air pollution in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

For the first time, forestry companies across the country are directly linked to citizens and the private sector, allowing anyone who wants instead of a cup of coffee, juice or ride on public transport to buy a seedling and choose a place to plant black or white pine, oak, maple, spruce and other important species for forest ecosystems and park areas.

With the arrival of spring, preparations for the new season of procurement and planting of trees will continue, which will improve the quality of air, forests and green areas throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina, with an invitation to all interested persons and companies to contribute to environmental protection and climate change, announced the UNDP.
