SARAJEVO, October 19 (FENA) - The United Nations Development Program (UNDP), in cooperation with the Embassy of Sweden in Bosnia and Herzegovina, presented the significant results of the "Green Economic Development" (GED) project in the Botanical Garden of the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The National Museum of BiH is one of the 275 public facilities in BiH that received support through the GED project.

The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has been implementing the "Green Economic Development" (GED) project since 2013, financed by Sweden, the Environmental Protection Fund of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund of the Republika Srpska, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia and Herzegovina, entity ministries of spatial planning, as well as cantonal ministries, and other partners.

The "Green Economic Development" project contributes to the establishment of a sustainable energy management system at all levels of government in Bosnia and Herzegovina, reducing harmful gas emissions, improving the energy efficiency of public buildings and public lighting systems, and reinvestment of realized financial savings. The project also includes activities related to renewable energy sources.

Ambassador of Sweden to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Johanna Strömquist, pointed out that through this project, by adapting public facilities and increasing their energy efficiency, savings are achieved and funds can be invested for other purposes. It also creates green jobs and affects air pollution in cities.

“The GED project offers a solution. Faced with all the crises that affect us, it simultaneously offers donors the opportunity to join together with local authorities and with the expertise and technical knowledge of UNDP to improve the efficiency of public and private facilities,” emphasized the Ambassador of Sweden to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Johanna Strömquis, adding that she looks forward to the establishment of new connections and partnerships through which energy security will be improved.

Resident Representative of UNDP in BiH Steliana Nedera said that the meeting with the project partners is an opportunity to review what has been achieved in energy management and energy efficiency in the past ten years.

Nedera stated, among other things, that with the help of GED grants, an additional 115 million KM funds were mobilized, which came from partners at all levels.

It was also pointed out that BiH has significant potential for reducing energy consumption and that it should be used to increase the implementation of energy efficiency measures both in public and in the housing sector and industry, which would contribute to the economic development of the country due to reduction of energy costs in public and private budgets and creation of green jobs, which has already been achieved to a large extent through the GED project.
