SARAJEVO, March 21 (FENA) - An informal group gathered around a campaign 'BH SELO' (BiH Village) was shortlisted as part of the campaign "Champions of Nature Protection, BIH Green Awards for 2022."
On the occasion of today's marking of the International Day of Forests and tomorrow's World Water Day, the Union for Sustainable Return and Integration in BiH calls for support to households within the BH SELO group, which includes 150 households in 17 cities in BiH: Foča, Foca Ustikolina, Teslić, Travnik, Kneževo, Trebinje, Ravno, Tešanj, Jajce, Konjic, Mrkonjić Grad, Kljuc, Kiseljak, Jablanica, Doboj, Kakanj and Doboj South.
"An informal group of households within the BH SELO campaign seeks to improve rural areas to preserve a clean environment and a green economy. Through BH SELO, we try to motivate and support as many people living in rural areas as possible to engage in organized agricultural activities and environmental protection. Also, BH SELO seeks to promote organic production, using its own agricultural resources of people living in rural areas," said the Union for Sustainable Return and Integration in BiH, within which the BH SELO group was formed.
The households involved in BH SELO are dedicated to preserving the environment through landscaping, picnic areas, setting up bins or garbage containers, preserving rivers and lakes as natural water resources.
Households engaged in BH SELO, participate in organized campaigns for cleaning the environment by removing various garbage dumps, repairing roads, organizing demonstrative lectures on environmental protection, training on planting fruits and vegetables with agro-technical measures, marking walking paths as and bicycle paths and blocks, the use of solar energy, cleaning the rivers and lakes, afforestation of the environment, making facades with the use of ecological paints.
Examples of this practice can be found in Tešanj, Konjic, Jablanica, Ravno, Trebinje and other cities.
