SARAJEVO, March 29 (FENA) - The final event of the project "Let’s make life in BiH better together”, which was implemented in Bihać, Lukavac and Čapljina municipalities from the beginning of September last year until the end of February this year, was held in Sarajevo today.

The project was financed by the Government of Switzerland and implemented by the Union for Sustainable Return and Integration in BiH.

Director of Cooperation at the Swiss Embassy in BiH Barbara Dätwyler Scheuer said that thanks to the project, 39 returnee families managed to create attractive tourism offers in rural areas in three municipalities - Bihać, Lukavac and Čapljina.

She noted that Switzerland since 1996 has supported sustainable return of BiH citizens, both refugees and displaced persons, to return to their homes.

"We believe that by investing joint effort of all stakeholders, both at the local and state level, we can provide support to returnees in order for them to rebuild their homes and build their future," she said.

Dätwyler Scheuer added that one of the possibilities for improving the living conditions of returnee families is the development of rural tourism.

She invited all interested parties to visit the website www.bhselo.ba to discover the beautiful destinations for rural tourism in this country.

“We also invite the BiH diaspora to exchange ideas and experiences in order to further improve this segment of rural tourism,” said Barbara Dätwyler Scheuer.

President of the Union for Sustainable Return and Integration in BiH Mirhunisa Zukić said that this is a pilot project to see how many people can be encouraged to stay in BiH through a new form of tourism offer, meaning that people can offer their capacities without some special and high level accommodation for a nice, recreational holidays in their homes, in places that offer different content compared to typical hotel rooms.

“We trained people, we also involved tourist agencies, local authorities, and the institutions,” Zukić said, adding that they want this project to be implemented in numerous other communities.

She mentioned that they already have five or six local communities that expressed desire to implement such a project. These are Travnik, Ključ, Tuzla, Odžak, and Modriča.

“Young people have also gathered around an association that will share its positive practice with other communities in the Una-Sana Canton,” said Zukić.
