ČAPLJINA, April 16 (FENA) - In the "Božan Šimović" barracks of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the village of Grabovina near Čapljina, organized by the Stolac war camp detainees association, for the first time in 30 years, the war camp detainees of Stolac and Čapljina were honored on this occasion.
"We enter these barracks for the first time in 30 years. On this day, April 15, 1993, mass arrests of Bosniaks from Stolac and Čapljina municipalities began, mostly members of the RBiH Army and intellectuals from Stolac and Čapljina, i.e. people who, as the opposing side imagined, could organize some action or rebellion at that time. The first prisoners were imprisoned in these barracks," the president of the Stolac war camp detainees association, Amer Đulić, told reporters.
He pointed out that they are not coming with any revenge in mind or anything like that, but with the aim of visiting the places and paying tribute, expressing hope that, in the near future, they will be able to make a memorial plaque that would remind us all of the suffering.
"In these barracks, there are signs that remind us of the 1990s, that remind of the places of the martyrdom of HVO soldiers. We want to be no different from those people because this is, after all, a country where three equal peoples and others live," he emphasized.
Đulić notes that in the beginning, about a hundred prisoners were kept in this place, of whom 62 were members of the RBiH Army and 45 civilians.
One of the first inmates of this place was Ibro Mahmutović from Stolac, who says that on this day 30 years ago, he was arrested and brought to these barracks.
Emir Hajdarović, president of the Assembly of the Association in the HNC, added that the main goal of their activities, especially recently, is to mark all the places where people suffered in the past war in order to serve new generations, with the message for it to never happen again to anyone.
