SARAJEVO, March 21 (FENA) – The European Union (EU) donated ten all-terrain vehicles to the Directorate for the Coordination of Police Bodies of Bosnia and Herzegovina (DKPTBiH), intended to strengthen the capacities of that police agency in the field of migration management.

It is a donation in the value of more than 700,000 KM as part of the project "Individual measures to strengthen the capacity to manage migration flows in Bosnia and Herzegovina", which was financed by EU funds and implemented in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

On this occasion, today at the headquarters of DKPT BiH in Sarajevo, a vehicle handover ceremony was held, which was made official by a symbolic act of handing over the keys.

The participants of the ceremony and the implementation of this project were welcomed by the head of the EU Delegation and the EU's special representative in BiH, Johann Sattler, who pointed out that BiH has made noticeable progress in the field of migration management.

He underlined that after the adoption of the strategy for that area, the adoption of the new law on foreigners, which is being prepared, is also important, calling on the competent authorities to further engage in this matter.

Addressing the participants of the ceremony, the Head of the IOM mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the coordinator for the Western Balkans, Laura Lungarotti, reminded that DKPT BiH took over the security aspect of transition centers (temporary reception centers for the accommodation of migrants) a year ago.

She emphasized that, in accordance with its own mission, the IOM will continue to work on strengthening the police agencies in BiH by securing funds and personnel in order to enable the state to take full responsibility in terms of migration management.

Funds for the project "Individual measures to strengthen capacities for managing migration flows in BiH" were provided through a special measure of the Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance (IPA), and it is a project implemented by IOM in partnership with UNHCR, UNICEF, UNFPA and the Danish Refugee Council (DRC).
