TUZLA, May 15 (FENA) - With the laying of wreaths and flowers, prayers, and a minute of silence, the citizens and the delegations paid tribute to the defenders of Tuzla who 30 years ago stopped the attempt of a far superior aggressor to take control of this area at the crossroads of Brčanska Malta.

The mayor of Tuzla, Jasmin Imamović, stated that the aggressor forces had huge quantities of weapons, tanks and mortars at their disposal and that on the other hand, the police officers had only police weapons.

Imamović also noted that on May 15, 1992, the Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) no longer existed.

"In April 1992, the Army of Federative Republic of Yugoslavia was formed, i.e. the Army of Serbia and Montenegro, which had legitimacy only on their own territory. The RS Army was formed in Banja Luka on May 12, 1992. The police defended the city and acted in self-defense, they responded to fire with fire," said Imamović.

Selim Bešlagić, who was the then-mayor of Tuzla on May 15, 1992, believes that the dignity of the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Tuzla was defended on that day, while police officer Edin Altumbabić said that police prevented what had happened in other cities of Bosnia and Herzegovina to happen in Tuzla as well.

Before marking the Day of Defense of Tuzla, delegations from Bijeljina and the RS entity paid tribute to the fallen soldiers of the FRY Army.
