SOFIA, June 13 (FENA) - Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) is hosting the 6th News Agencies World Congress (NAWC), which started in Sofia today.
President of the Republic of Bulgaria Rumen Radev addressed representatives of around 100 agencies from the entire world at the opening ceremony, who emphasized importance media plays in society, especially news agencies.
Over the next three days of the Congress, more than 200 media professionals will discuss several current topics related to development of agency journalism and media in general.
The congress will particularly focus on the future of news in the context of technological changes and new media.
“World is changing faster than ever, and so is our profession. More than 200 journalists from around 100 countries have gathered in Sofia to discuss most important topics such as: What is the future of news? How digitalization and artificial intelligence change our profession?,” said Secretary General of NAWC and Director General of BTA Maxim Minchev, stressing that informative journalism is one of the last guardians of verified, confirmed and credible news.
NAWC is held every three years and the decision about host of the next congress, which will be held in 2022, will be issued on the last day of the congress in Sofia. The first News Agencies World Congress was held in 2004 in Moscow.
The Federal News Agency (FENA) has been an active and long-standing participant of NAWC. General Manager and Editor-in-Chief of FENA, Elmir Huremović and Dejan Jazvić are taking part in the congress in Sofia.
