SARAJEVO, October 17 (FENA) - The European future of Bosnia and Herzegovina within the contemporary geopolitical order, in the context of its potential accession to the European Union, is pretty uncertain, says Nerzuk Ćurak, a fulltime professor at the Faculty of Political Science in Sarajevo, a member of the Committee on Political Science of the Department of Social Sciences which operates within the Academy of Arts and Sciences of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

During his public lecture held today at the Academy on the topic "The Geopolitical Order of the Contemporary World and the European Future of Bosnia and Herzegovina", Ćurak said that the accession of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the European Union would be highly unlikely if retrograde, xenophobic, neoconservative and right wing parties win the elections for the European Parliament next year.

He, however, hopes for the victory of emancipatory powers and believes that the European Union, which would be able to resist the triumph of the worst kind of policies, would be the best path for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“The situation requires that the BiH moves very quickly with the “establishment of the state”, which would strengthen the positive features, and neutralize the negative ones, but at the moment, I do not see such an effort taking place, on the contrary,” warned Ćurak. .

In his view, the results of the October 7 general elections in the country are questionable to say the least, because of the developments that are the product of the current electoral legislation.

The process of forming the new governments at all levels will be painstaking, and if they are to be formed soon, identity issues will, unfortunately, be placed above everyday problems of the citizens,” Ćurak believes.

He also stressed that we have fallen into the trap of primitive capitalism that represents the politics of identity as a choice between life and death.
