ZENICA, July 19 (FENA) - Head of the Section for Political and Economic Affairs of the EU Delegation to BiH Jan Snaidauf, during his visit to the Zenica-Doboj Canton, responded to the question about the impact of the newly-launched EU measures in order to protect its steel market, saying that the measures will not negatively affect the export of steel from BiH or the industry of our country.
“These are temporary measures as a safeguard to protect the European steel market, due to the introduction of tariffs by the US and President Trump.
The purpose is not to allow greater discrepancies, and to control the amounts of steel on the EU market. Certain quotas have been introduced that are measurable and which can ensure the functioning of the market, but also enable export, including the exports from BiH to the EU.
Therefore, I can assure you that this will not cause any damage to the industry in BiH, but will allow exports to continue at the same pace and could perhaps even increase,” Snaidauf said in a statement to reporters.
He underlined that these are only temporary measures, which will last for 200 days, and that by the end of this year or the beginning of next year they would be replaced by other measures based on the experience learned from these measures.
"The EU has only reacted to the measures imposed by the United States and it had to do so based on the rules of the World Trade Organization that apply to the entire world," Snaiduaf said.
