SARAJEVO, June 20 (FENA) - Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH Mirko Šarović met with representatives of Chamber of Economy of FBiH to consider an initiative for reduction of taxation and creating better regulatory framework for import of new cars, especially electric cars.
"Dramatic changes will happen in market of electric cars in the next five to ten years and we need to follow those trends. Nearly a million electric cars were sold last year and that number is doubling by the year, and only 18 of these cars have been registered in our country, which is a warning enough," emphasized Minister Šarović, explaining that BiH is one of the rare countries in Europe that offers no benefits for import of electric cars.
Creating conditions for import of electric cars is important from the aspect of use of renewable energy sources, but also for reduction of pollution, it was emphasized at the meeting.
Unfortunately, BiH is first in Europe when it comes to number of fatalities due to air pollution, and it is assessed that 30 percent of pollution comes from exhaust gas of cars. In that regard, they emphasized initiative to consider introducing standard higher than the current Euro 4 in import of used cars.
Having in mind BiH commitments according to European directives from area of energy and protection from pollution, it was agreed to initiate a wider public discussion on possible amendments to the legal regulative in this area, Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH stated.
