SARAJEVO, February 7 (FENA) - Bosnia and Herzegovina last year signed an agreement with the European Union in the field of healthcare, allowing access to EU funds for various institutions in this sector, and it is possible to withdraw significant funds through these projects.

In order to present the best ways of to access these funds, the Ministry of Civil Affairs of BiH, with the support of the Executive Agency of the European Commission for Consumers, Health, Agriculture and Food (CHAFEA), organized today in Sarajevo an Info Day on the Third Action Program in the Field of Health (2014 -2020).

By organizing the Info Day, the Ministry wishes to inform potential applicants (public institutions, research and health institutions, universities and institutions of higher education, and non-governmental organizations) on the instruments from the Third Healthcare Action Program available to BiH.

A representative of CHAFEA Cinthia Menel Lemos explained that the multi-year program gathers 28 member states of the European Union, including Iceland and Norway, and countries that have signed an agreement with the EU in the field of healthcare, including BiH.

It is possible to fund projects in the areas of integrated healthcare for non-communicable diseases, in the area of rare diseases, and it is planned to support laboratories, forexample, in cases of cross-border threats such as Ebola that occurred in 2014.

Cinthia Menel Lemos added that the projects are not intended for one country alone, and it is necessary that at least three organizations from at least three countries participate in the implementation of the project.

“If an organization from BiH wants to apply for a project it should present what knowledge and experience it brings and then it is necessary to look for partners from other countries to jointly apply for the project,” she pointed out.

Menel Lemos appealed to organizations from BiH to join this program as citizens pay part of the funds through taxes, since BiH pays a certain amount each year to participate in the program, and if organizations from BiH do not apply, the funds will not return to BiH but will be spent in other countries.

CHAFEA finances project costs between 60 and 80 percent, and the projects are planned to be implemented within two to three years.
