SARAJEVO, January 23 (FENA) – FBiH Prime Minister Fadil Novalić announced that the Government of the Federation of BiH will again discuss, on its Friday session, information on the situation in Zenica Steelworks, adding that he will propose that the FBiH Government asks the Finance Police to enter the Steelworks as soon as possible and analyze the operations of the Management and the Supervisory Board.
Mr. Novalić explained at a press conference in Sarajevo that a wrong perception has been created in the public that this issue concerns the Steelworks’ production site.
“The issue actually concerns a restaurant that provides food services for Arcelor Mittal which has 2,300 employees and, in addition to that, is also dealing with the business of renting scaffolding and industrial business premises. The question is, where did the funds from these activities go, from the sale of the real estate of Zenica Steelworks and who has created the enormous losses that went up to four million KM annually,” Mr. Novalić said.
He pointed out that the debt of the Steelworks to the Tax Administration alone amounts to 56 million KM.
“The Government of the Federation of BiH has done everything in its power so far,” said Mr. Novalić, adding that in December they allocated 350 thousand KM and practically gave two salaries to help these people.
“Within the insolvency procedure, a new company will be set up to employ 120 people and we will help the insolvency administrator do it as soon as possible. We need time and therefore I would ask workers to refrain from any radical actions,” Mr. Novalić told the workers who went on a hunger strike expecting solutions to be found to the difficult situation they are in.
