SARAJEVO, January 17 (FENA) – Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, who is on an official two-day visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina, said today that Croatia is a true friend of BiH who only wants BiH well, both in its internal affairs and in other foreign policy priorities.

“We had an open dialogue. Talking about issues that burden relationships is the best way to improve cooperation. Apart from my duty to protect the interests of Croatia, it is also my duty to build peace and friendly relations with other countries, and there is no country that needs it more than BiH,” the Croatian President said.

She added that Croatia geographically surrounds BiH and that it is important to build mutual relations, saying that Croatia invested one billion euros in the BiH economy, that 1.6 billion euros was the worth of last year’s foreign trade and that half a million tourists from BiH visited Croatia.

“About 200 Croatian companies operate in BiH, and about 100 BiH companies operate in Croatia. There are numerous areas for investments in the field of energy, telecommunications, road infrastructure and industry,” Ms. Grabar-Kitarović believes.

She promised to help BiH when it comes to its path to the European Union and the activation of the Membership Action Plan (MAP) in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidency Chairman Dragan Čović said that a multitude of issues was discussed, adding that none of the open issues is so difficult that it cannot be resolved through dialogue.

The officials pointed out that this was the way for the improvement of the relations between the two countries and within BiH, which is currently going through the pre-election campaign, and that it was necessary to maintain the primary foreign policy priority, and that is the path to the European Union and the NATO.

Mr. Čović believes that BiH deserves a candidate status and he wishes that this becomes the reality in this calendar year, which would, he said, ease the relations between BiH and neighboring countries, but also within BiH.

“This is the right time for the activation of the MAP and the obtaining a candidate status because the postponement could make communication within BiH more difficult,” Mr. Čović concluded.

After meeting with the Chairman and members of the BiH Presidency, President Grabar-Kitarović will meet with the members of both Houses of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly and the BiH Council of Ministers Chairman Denis Zvizdić.
