KONJIC, January 15 (FENA) – Conference entitled "Regulatory reform and its implementation at local (municipal) level" was organized  and held in Konjic by  the  Federal Ministry of Development, Entrepreneurship and Crafts, in cooperation with LIFE project implementers, the British Embassy, and the International Financial Corporation - IFC, a member of the World Bank.

The conference was attended by  about  70  municipal chief executives  and their assistants from all over the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina who had the opportunity to exchange knowledge and in an active discussion seek solutions to the practical issues and challenges faced by their local communities in the process of implementing regulatory reforms  with the aim to speed up the economic development of the country and to attract investments.

On the occasion, Federal Minister of Development, Entrepreneurship and Crafts,  Amir Zukic,  said in a media statement  that experiences  obtained   through the implementation of various regulatory reform projects implemented by the World Bank Group in 24 local communities in the FBiH area over the past 10 years had been exchanged, adding   that the so far experiences showed  that the majority of investments  in BiH had been  made  by the already present investors,  while most of the business life, about 80 % , took place at the local level.

- Through projects that  have already  been implemented  in 24 local communities and through all the positive experiences they carry, we   tried today  to transfer it to other local communities as well,  while  for  the future we are planning new local projects in five local communities  with the aim to transfer  and implement the work methodology with investors - said Minister Zukic.

He pointed out that  the main  goal of these activities was to provide investment support, or to facilitate operations  for investors who had already invested money.

- At the same time, we are trying to make some efforts to improve the regulatory framework of the process and everything that accompanies the investment, to attract new investors, which would  result in an  increase in employment  and other parameters of economic growth and development, especially in the Federation of BiH -  Minister Zukic explained.

By the agreement of the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the World Bank Group, signed two years ago, the federal Ministry  got  involved in the realization of the LIFE project.

IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, in cooperation with the British Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, through the  Project of  attracting  investment and improving  the business environment at the local level - LIFE,  supports the implementation of  the regulatory reform process  in local communities throughout BiH.

By  some previous  projects, the World Bank  through the LIFE project, supported by the British Embassy, the reforms in  another 13 local government units have been implemented.

It is  planned  that in 2018  the LIFE project will include 8 additional municipalities,  5 in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and 3  in Republika Srpska, so that by the end of this year, the total number of reformed municipalities and cantons in the entire BiH will be 47.
