SARAJEVO, January 12 (FENA) – Personnel and chief of the EUFOR Staff in BiH Brigadier General Pavle Arsovski, along with the Deputy Minister of Defense of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) Bekim Maksuti, Macedonian officials and military personnel, marked today the 10th anniversary of a helicopter crash near Skopje, paid tribute and remembered those who lost their lives in this tragedy.
The EUFOR personnel lined up in an honor guard unit near the monument, while Deputy Defense Minister Maksuti gave his address to the audience, saying that the Macedonian security forces, who served side by side with other peacekeepers, had never before experienced such a tragic loss.
“They represented the contribution of Macedonia to lasting peace and security in our region,” he said.
The commemoration and laying of the wreaths were attended, among others, by the Charge d'Affaires of the Macedonian Embassy to BiH, Aleksandar Krstevski, and the military attaché for BiH and Montenegro, Brigadier Donče Kuzmanov.
A military helicopter with soldiers returning home after a peacekeeping mission to EUFOR in BiH crashed on this day ten years ago, near its final destination in Skopje. All 11 people at the helicopter died, and all were personnel from Macedonia, said EUFOR.
