BANJA LUKA, January 12 (FENA) - A number of citizens' complaints about the violation of almost all human rights has increased in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Human Rights Ombudsman of BiH Ljubinko Mitrović confirmed today that more than 14,000 people in 2017 have addressed the Ombudsman Institution, which is about 2,000 more than in 2016.

“We registered 3,160 citizens' complaints, or 250 more compared to 2016. The Ombudsman Institution issued 336 recommendations in 355 cases, which is also an increase compared to 2016 - Mitrović told reporters in Banja Luka.

Citizens mostly complained about the violation of rights when it comes to labor rights and the work of courts, where 624 complaints were registered last year, and Mitrović said that the complaints on the work of prosecutor offices were also numerous.

“Citizens mostly complained about the length of court proceedings, which is still the biggest problem,” said Mitrovic.

Also, the ombudspersons registered the citizens' complaints about violations in terms of other rights, in the field of labor law, a large number of cases dealing with discrimination, and 172 cases also related to endangering of children's rights.

"It is frustrating to see that some cases of human rights violations that the citizens have point out could be resolved very quickly, but this gets impeded by huge bureaucracy,” stressed Mitrović.
