Metropolitan Hrizostom:Interethnic relations not nearly as bad as political ones

FENA

SARAJEVO, January 7 (FENA) - People are being drawn to bloody and tragic past by those who use that same past for their purposes and goals, said in an interview with FENA Metropolitan of Dabar-Bosna Hrizostom.

Interviewer: Jelena Marković

He believes that the peoples of Bosnia and Herzegovina can be liberated of this difficult past only through the truth about everything that had happened, and then by reconciliation, and by forgiving one another.

However, the Metropolitan is of the opinion that the blame for the abuse of the past is not only on the politicians in BiH, but also the media.

Therefore, he says, only the truth can liberate us, and everything else that has nothing to do with the truth about the war in BiH cannot help anyone.

“We have to hear and accept the truth from one another, let's reason ourselves and reconcile in the name of all the innocent victims. They are asking us to do this and expect us to do this,” the Metropolitan.

Metropolitan Hrizostom also referred to the issue of the return of the property of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Sarajevo, which has not yet been resolved. He noted that the Serbian Orthodox Church in the past five or six years, due to the illness of Metropolitan Nikolai did not actively deal with this problem.

“However, we are preparing a plan to re-launch the resolving of this complex issue during this year,” he stressed.

The reasons why the property to the Serbian Orthodox Church in Sarajevo has not been returned yet, he said that they are exclusively of "political-nationalistic nature" and that this is a clear case of discrimination and segregation based on religious and national affiliation, which, he warns, is punishable under the laws of the European Union.

Therefore, he says, ultimately, they will be forced to resort to a lawsuit before the European Court of Human Rights.

Commenting on interethnic relations in BiH, he said that they are not as nearly as bad as political relations, which he rated as "one big nothing," stressing that inter-ethnic relations in BiH have always been conditioned by political relations.

“The peoples of Bosnia and Herzegovina - Serbs, Croats, Bosniaks, but also all others, should gather around good policies, good programs and the good for all, because, we live here, all of us together, and it will be so, today and tomorrow,” concluded the Metropolitan.
