MPI team begins the search of the lake at Vihovići mine, a suspected mass grave

MOSTAR, November 15 (FENA) - On Monday morning, the BiH Institute for Missing Persons began a search of the lake at the Vihovići mine pit in Mostar, under the suspicion that it contains a mass grave of those who were killed in the last war in BiH.

The chairman of the board of directors of the Institute for Missing Persons of BiH, Mujo Hadžiomerović, pointed out that according to their operational knowledge, the institute is searching for 80 to 100 persons that had been killed, brought in and thrown into the artificial lake in Vihovići.

"The Institute for Missing Persons in BiH found 80 percent of the missing persons, in figures it is 24,500, identified and handed over to their families, and 27,000 of them were found, which means that we have a lot of unidentified persons who are in morgues throughout BiH. We still have 7,500 people missing, out of a total of 11,000 who are being searched for in the territory of the former Yugoslavia," said Mujo Hadžiomerović, chairman of the board of directors of the Institute for Missing Persons of BiH.

He added that in the coming days, thanks to the divers of the diving and mountaineering team of the State Agency for Investigation and Protection, the dilemma related to this information will be resolved.

The spokeswoman of the Institute for Missing Persons of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Emza Fazlić, reminded that 465 people have been exhumed from a number of mass and individual graves in the area of ​​Mostar, and that the fate of 202 people is being sought in the area of ​​the city of Mostar, of whom 154 are citizens of Mostar.

She added that the morgues of the Sutina city cemetery in Mostar store the remains of 143 unidentified persons.

According to her, employees of the MPI BiH and the Mostar Police are looking for 570 people in the territory of Herzegovina.

"These days, the employees of the Mostar Police will work on exhumation in the areas of ​​Konjic, Gacko, Nevesinje, Drežnica and by the end of the year in Tomislavgrad," said Fazlić.
