SARAJEVO, October 7 (FENA) - The marking of Sustainable Development Week in Bosnia and Herzegovina began with the conference "Towards financing sustainable development", which was held today in Sarajevo. This gathering aims to present the Roadmap for project financing and present good practices.

Back in 2015, the United Nations defined 17 sustainable development goals at the global level and almost 170 sub-goals that are classified into three major areas, namely economic development, social development and ecology.

Ambassador Miloš Prica from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of BiH visited the path that BiH has taken in this sense, stressing that the localization of the process has been started because it has been realized that without local communities and citizens on the ground, there can hardly be any success in the implementation of goals.

"It is impossible to achieve the goals by 2030 only with public funds, but much more funds will be needed for that. That's why a working group for the financing of goals was formed, whose task is to find innovative ways of financing projects that will contribute to the implementation of goals," explained Prica.

The resident coordinator of the United Nations in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ingrid Macdonald, said that we live in a highly connected world, as demonstrated by the climate crisis and the coronavirus pandemic, making it clear that such crises know no borders and that challenges can only be met with joint work.

The Sustainable Development Week aims to raise people's awareness that it is as important to solve problems in the economic field as it is to solve problems related to environmental protection for the benefit of all people, especially in times of great changes and digitization.

"We have less than 10 years to reach the sustainable development goals we committed to in 2015, but now is the time for decisions. We have no time to waste and if smart decisions are not made today, the future will be extremely difficult - said Macdonald.

John Skoglund, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Sweden in Bosnia and Herzegovina, emphasized that the country is a big supporter of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda globally, which is also the case in Bosnia and Herzegovina, stressing that today's conference is also an opportunity to determine the ways in which the implementation of the goals will be accelerated in the coming period.

The focus of the conference was on the presentation of successful practices and results from countries that have established innovative financing instruments in the fields of energy, innovation and green economy.

During the Sustainable Development Week, a series of events will be organized where participants will deal with issues of migration, social protection reform, as well as education reform, but also rising inflation and the energy crisis.
