Format of conversation between "representatives of constituent peoples" unacceptable for Izetbegović

SARAJEVO, June 28 (FENA) - SDA Secretary General Halid Genjac sent a letter to the Head of the European Union Delegation to BiH Johann Sattler outlining the position of SDA President Bakir Izetbegović regarding the spoken invitation of the European Commissioner for Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi to attend a joint meeting with the presidents of SNSD and HDZ BiH, Milorad Dodik and Dragan Čović, on July 6, 2022 in Brussels.

During the invitation conversation, the topics and daily work of the mentioned meetings were not presented, and I hereby ask you to submit them to us in writing.

I note that President Izetbegović cannot agree to the format of the conversation if it implies the so-called "representatives of the constituent peoples", because such a format does not respect the institutions and constitutional structure of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Bosnia and Herzegovina is not a simple sum of three "constituent peoples" and such a reduced format cannot bring any results, especially after the coordinated action of SNSD and HDZ in the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina to overthrow the laws that are a condition for meeting the priorities of the Opinion of the European Commission, and granting candidate status to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

President Izetbegović has always responded to calls for all talks that are in the interest of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which can contribute to improving its functionality and speeding up the European path. However, the format in which such talks take place must include BiH institutions: the BiH Presidency, the enlarged Collegium of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly, or representatives of all parliamentary parties. If, on the other hand, the talks are held at the level of political parties that currently form the ruling majority at the state level, then Željko Komšić would have to attend the talks as well, considering that the Democratic Front is part of the coalition.
