BRUSSELS, June 20 (FENA) - The Western Balkans are important to the European Union and the European Union is important to the European Union, according to an invitation sent to the members of the European Council by the President of this European body Charles Michel ahead of the scheduled meeting on June 23 and 24.
In the letter, Michel reiterated support for the Euro-Atlantic integration of the Western Balkans region.
- We must restart the enlargement process and improve the integration of our Western Balkan partners. We will meet with them before the formal meeting of the European Council - the letter states.
Michel announced a meeting with Western Balkan partners on Thursday (June 23rd) at 9.30 am in Brussels.
In the letter, he reminded that the war had returned to Europe and that this required unprecedented actions and projecting the EU's geopolitical influence.
- Now we must take further steps to strengthen the security and stability of our continent. Now is the time to recognize that the future of Ukraine, Moldova, and Georgia lies in the EU. I will invite you to grant candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova. At the same time, we will continue to provide strong humanitarian, military, economic and financial support to Ukraine, Michel wrote.
