SARAJEVO, May 25 (FENA) - The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will support the Sarajevo Canton Government in the process of digitizing the management of subsidies and grants awarded to citizens and the private sector for economic and social development.

This USAID support was made official by yesterday's signing of the Agreement with the Sarajevo Canton.

Following the completion of an intensive training program for employees of line ministries in the Sarajevo Canton, which includes managing public finances through a program budget and setting performance indicators, USAID's Financial Sector Reform Activity (FINRA) project will support better management of household assistance, non-governmental and private sector in the Sarajevo Canton, it was announced from USAID.

“Helping the Sarajevo Canton to improve its ability to use e-government, this grant will significantly simplify procedures for citizens and businesses in Sarajevo Canton in the process of applying for calls to support employment and household income growth in the Canton, while improving transparency in public spending,” said USAID Mission Director Courtney Chubb.

Minister of Economy of the Sarajevo Canton, Adnan Delić, emphasizes that with USAID's support, online applications and the submission of subsidy and grant programs, which are awarded by the Ministry of Economy of the Sarajevo Canton, will be enabled.

Sarajevo Canton annually publishes at least twenty public calls for applications for subsidy programs, grants and other forms of assistance to support employment, income generation and social services in the non-governmental sector. These public calls take up significant time and resources of all applicants, and they must obtain various licenses, permits and certificates in original or in the form of certified copies to prove that they meet the conditions for application.

During this year, Sarajevo Canton will present a digital platform that will enable the submission of applications through online platforms. The software will be electronically connected to the databases of the competent public institutions, which will enable the applicants to prove their status, and the Cantonal Government to confirm their eligibility. USAID is awarding grants to the Canton to co-finance the development and takeover of the digital system.
