SARAJEVO, April 20 (FENA) - US Senators from the Foreign Affairs Committee Jeanne Shaheen and Chris Murphy and a Senator from the Armed Forces Committee Thom Tillis visited Bosnia and Herzegovina today, where they had numerous meetings with BiH political representatives, emphasizing their unique bilateral relationship with BiH.
Ambassador of the United States of America Michael Murphy also attended the meetings and expressed satisfaction with this visit, which confirms the strong engagement of the United States in BiH and strengthens long-term relations.
According to the ambassador, this visit shows the support of both parties in the United States to BiH, its progress, and that bilateral support refers to the sovereignty, territorial integrity and multiethnic character of BiH.
He also added that the United States wants functional, efficient and responsible state institutions in which all leaders work honestly and fairly, and that functional entities where leaders should be focused on the prosperous future they have promised their citizens are very much needed.
U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen reminded that a bipartisan resolution had been passed in the Senate and announced that she would pass on all the information from the meetings to the Senate as well as to the US administration.
She also called for a united position when it comes to unprovoked Russian aggression against Ukraine, which is why she emphasized that she did not agree with the member of the Presidency of BiH, Milorad Dodik, on that issue.
Senator Chris Murphy said that now is the time to lend a hand to partnership and ensure that BiH has strong state institutions as well as entities, and called on leaders to put the interests of the state first.
Senator Thom Tillis also conveyed the message of the united American parties in support of BiH for an engaged civil society, emphasizing that they will try to ensure that all their members know what needs to be done.
