MOSTAR, January 12 (FENA) - The US Ambassador to BiH Eric Nelson and Head of the EU Delegation and EU Special Representative to BiH Johann Sattler said on Wednesday in Mostar that flexibility and responsibility are crucial and that the United States together with the EU will continue to work on all outstanding issues in BiH.

Speaking about the reforms of the election law in BiH, both assessed that this would be the last chance for what the HDZ and the SDA expressed more than 18 months ago, regarding the Presidency and the implementation of judgments of the European Court of Human Rights.

"Improving the relations between Bosniaks and Croats is also important and we are committed to it so that everyone has the right to run for office in accordance with the judgments of the European Court," said Sattler.

According to him, it is important to establish rules that will enable fair elections to be held.

He, therefore, called on all stakeholders in this process to seize the opportunity and reach a compromise.

Nelson also confirmed that there will be elections this year, and what is important is that they be held with more integrity and that citizens believe their vote matters.

"We are working and asking for electoral reform from both the technical and administrative and legislative levels to remove the weaknesses that have passed on from one election cycle to the next," Nelson added.

Both condemned the January 9 celebration of the so-called "Republika Srpska Day".

- The EU is clear on that. Such actions have reignited tensions among communities across the country and further deepened the political crisis. This is contrary to the European values we want to see and the accession of this country to the EU," Sattler underlined.

He pointed out that the EU, in addition to being ready to help in the dialogue, also has a framework for imposing sanctions and denying help.

"We have all the tools at our disposal. Sanctions exist, but what we are doing and our task is to return people to dialogue and to the work of state institutions. However, if that doesn't happen, other things are being considered, but we hope that common sense will prevail and that politicians really won't waste this whole year, which is an election year, on collecting their political points - Sattler said.
